White Horse

The White Horse stood opposite what is now the Book Castle in Church Street before the road was widened. It was originally called the King's Head. and dated back to the 16th century. Outside was a large stone which had been used to tether horses. It was rescued by the headmaster of Beecroft School, Mr John Lunn, when the pub was being demolished and taken to a new home in the school playing field.
